Okish
To be honest, i quite like the idea of having a remote play app for my Ps4 as i can just play from anywhere in the house close to my playstation on my phone. When you start the app, it says 'This app can be used when far away from the playstation to play anywhere and anytime' but i can only use the app at certain distances. I really think you should improve this, so that you can play with the controller on your phone. For this to work, i have an algorithm which could work; 1. Playstation can stay off
2. Have the app downloaded and sign into your PSN account
3. Put the controller into bluetooth connect mode(Playstation and share button at the same time(hold) and wait till flashing blue), then DS4 appears on screen and you tap it.
4. Choose your game to play, (use data for games that require WiFi if not connected to any) and play.
Great on PS5 no lag or problems running 720p resolution which was not the case with the PS4
I have a PS5 and it streams really well on a local connection at 720p and using my DualShock 4 on the app. Bluetooth is quick at sending buttons/input to the console locally. Sound steaming is top notch too. However on the PS5 you cannot see the bottom "nav" bar (with power options, switcher, etc.) when you press the PS button it is almost hidden by the apps GUI on screen. I tried turning off the overlays but it only hides the D-Pad and buttons. It should really turn off all GUI elements if you've specified this. It would also make it more immersive taking up all the space on the screen (I have a 12 Pro Max) rather than having a dark gradient at the bottom of the screen and some PS buttons/cog icon overlapping the on screen subtitles, gameplay and your own menu, etc. But other than that great job. I know this only works over "WiFi" (meaning 5G routers could be used) but if people have unlimited data plans surely this should be possible to use mobile data for on the go! e.g playing at a park or bench somewhere? I understand there could be NAT and other things at play here but should be doable and not limited to just Wifi. But thanks #Sony!
Great concept, poorly implemented
Holy moly, been waiting for something like this for ages, and lots of parts are great! It's free, connects quickly, good quality - near perfect in that way. But what a shame it's near unusable due to the awkward controller + sensitivity on mobile. Please please please bring DualShock support in, then it would be 5* - the phone/iPad/device should NOT be the controller. Really really this is the thing it's missing, the dream would to play as normal and just stream to my phone/tablet. I think that's what we were all expecting from this app, hopefully they'll bring it in!
(Thank you Sony for taking steps in this direction though it's great, make sure you at least try and implement it better than Xbox/Microsoft 👀)
